For over forty years, Genkai has been proud to call Chico home. Since we opened our doors in 1986, we’ve had the privilege of serving generations of families, celebrating life’s milestones, and building friendships that have lasted decades.
One of our greatest joys is watching children who once dined here with their parents return years later with families of their own. Those moments remind us that Genkai is more than a restaurant — it’s a place where memories are made.

As a locally owned and family-operated business, owners Kou and Nalee are involved every day, working alongside our incredible team to make sure every guest feels genuinely welcomed.
We believe hospitality is personal. We love getting to know our guests, learning their favorite dishes, celebrating special occasions, and creating an atmosphere where everyone feels at home.

Our menu reflects our passion for Japanese cuisine and our commitment to offering something for everyone — traditional fresh sushi, cooked rolls, riceless options, gluten-friendly selections, handcrafted sauces made in-house, and flavorful kitchen entrées for those who don’t eat sushi.
Whenever possible we source our ingredients locally, and we prepare our signature sauces from scratch. Quality, variety and exceptional flavor in every meal is what we aim for.
